BRIGHT fair is a street wear trade fair specialized in skate board related products. It had been held in Frankfurt am main. And now they move to Berlin at this coming fashion week in early July (8-10) 2010. Gordon from Asics Deutschland asked me to come along to see the location and find solutions for ASICS sports style booth. And the location is "Stasi Headquarters Haus18" in Lichtenberg. Stasi was the official state security service of East Germany known as one of the most effective and repressive intelligence and secret police agencies in the world. The location sounds totally special, offer from Gordon sounds very nice, that's my favorite time....in other words.....WOW...
We found the spot.
amazing engraving on linoleum floor was made by an artist after the wall came down. I heard it took a year but I couldn't see the name.
Hauptmann Gerd Wiesler in "Das Leben der Anderen"
The film, "Das Leben der Anderen" or "The Lives of Others" or "善き人のためのソナタ", is such a impressive movie that shows how it was to live in the heavily monitored society, not only from views from a person being monitored, but also a person who was monitoring. Strongly recommended if you didn't see it yet.
Is it only me? who thinks Hauptmann Gerd Wiesler's jacket he is wearing in the film is as cool as UNDERCOVER "DIETER RAMS" collection? Really nice.

And then Gordon suggested to go up the Dom by walking 550 steps till the top of this 157m height Kölner Dom.
There was a crying girl on stairs close to the top of Dom. It was only when we were on top to realize why the girl was crying. She was scared of the height. To me it was very very understandable.

My impression of Köln trip was
1) The best speech and presentation (50min.) i have ever experienced in my life by Asics Europe's new president Mr. Alister Cameron. Goosebumps.
2) Finding of a small and nice design shop Zeitgeist.
3) Tabi shoes are back!
今回のケルンの印象トップ3は;
3) 足袋はIN!
Phew, i just came back from Köln where Asics had a big European meeting for 5 days. For me it is always nice to meet all people from them and experience and be inspired by the new collection and direction. It was especially nice because it was held at the city where I only heard good things. Köln was really nice town. More will come shortly.
We shipped a carton by sea shipment from Osaka to Berlin that contains only books and magazines. Other than that, this photo shows what we brought back from Japan. It was 50 kg on the way to Japan and same 50 kg on the way back to Berlin for two of us. Traveling back home is a heavy thing. Yes, indeed.
Yes, there were so many fashion pieces i wanted to buy of course! But it is not possible to buy everything. Actually one shopping day in Aoyama, we made a list how much it would have been if we bought them all. It was 4,615 euro for me and 4,920 euro for Svenja. And that was even just one outfit!!! And left page shows what we actually bought on that day including souvenir for our friends which was 114 euro. In this case, I am very happy to be in Berlin.
So, I think this will be my last post from our three weeks Japanese travel. Phew! I did it. I finally made it. These goes to all my friends in Tokyo, to my family, to my friends in Berlin and all over Europe. Love is the message! Love is the message! Love is the message YO!
Now i feel a bit sad because I don't know when I go back to Japan next time. I want to go to Amalfi coast in Italy again and I want to go to NYC as well. But Japan is my home country. I will come back sooner than the last time.
One thing i want to mention is........
we can easily be blind and not appreciating our surroundings if we live there for a long time. It sometime helps to go out from your comfortable area and look back where you were and realize how nice it was. But I think it's just a way how you look at it and how you take it even if you are still there.
Japan for sure is the land of surprise and uniqueness. Vending machine on street is for sure way beyond the imagination of Europeans for example. Bamboo basket being used at Japanese kitchen is a piece of craft work. Japanese family crest is the ultimate simplicity and beauty of design!
Akira Kurosawa film was not respected as masterpiece in Japan until American and European started to appreciate his films. Takeshi Kitano's film was never taken serious in domestic market because he was only a comedian but reputation was completely changed after again American and European praised his work. I really want to be the first one to say "THIS IS THE COOLNESS" when something unique come out from Japan. Much much MUCH faster than Europeans or Americans. We judge it by ourselves. And I think that is coming very very VERY soon.
So that was the last words from my travel. It was great. Thank you very much. I hope you enjoyed it!
